A DIFFERENT KIND OF LEARNING EXPERIENCE

You can find lighting diagrams and technical tutorials almost anywhere. Studio Sessions will focus on the details that are harder to learn from a diagram: Why choose one modifier instead of another? Why move the light a few inches? Why feather the light instead of pointing it directly at the subject? How does the position of the face affect the light? When should you add fill, and when should you allow the shadows to remain? How do posing, expression, crop, makeup, and lighting work together? These are the decisions I will talk through during the shoot. The goal is not for everyone to copy the same photograph. It is to give you a strong foundation and then let you bring your own perspective to the set.

These sessions are ideal for:

  • Photographers who are new to studio lighting

  • Natural-light photographers interested in working with strobes

  • Portrait photographers who want to explore beauty photography

  • Photographers looking to strengthen their portfolios

  • Creatives who want more experience directing and photographing models

  • Experienced photographers who enjoy collaborative shoots and learning how others approach their work

You do not need extensive studio experience to attend.

We recommend that you be comfortable operating your camera in manual mode and understand basic settings such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Please bring:

  • Your camera

  • Your preferred lenses.

  • Fully charged batteries

  • Empty memory cards

  • Your camera’s tether cable if you have one

  • External hard drive if shooting tethered

  • A notebook or notes app for anything you want to remember

Studio lighting, triggers, modifiers, backgrounds, and the tethering computer will be provided. We will be working with Profoto lighting, Parabolix Light modifiers, Mola Softlight modifiers, and other high end brands. We will be using strobes and/or constant lights.

Before the event, attendees will be asked to provide their camera brand and model so tethering compatibility can be confirmed.
